CPR performed on man after antique store fire

A man died despite CPR after the antique store fire incident. The firefighters responded to a fire at Remember That Collectibles at 127 Fern Rd.

Delivery of CPR to save a life

The first crew swept through the smoke-filled single-story building and found the owner’s dog which was resuscitated by the paramedics.

It was during the second sweep that they found the store’s owner in a room in the back of the building which was 6 meters from the fire. The man was taken out of the building and initial attempts to resuscitate him were successful but he died while awaiting air transport to a healthcare facility.

The coroner has not yet determined the cause of death but it is likely smoke inhalation. During the rescue, visibility was limited. The crews did they best they could with the equipment they had and the environment they were in. CPR was initiated right away and for a short time, a pulse was restored.

It appears that the man lived in the building which included a packed warehouse of collectibles and furniture.
