Increasing cases of hockey rink heart attacks requires more public defibrillators

The resuscitation of 2 Newfoundland hockey players highlights the importance of public defibrillators.

It was the second case of heart attacks at a hockey rink where another player was saved with CPR. The players who suffered the heart attacks in both cases are recovering.

At the present, there are defibrillators installed in every hockey rink in Newfoundland and Labrador, but there is a push from a local group to have them installed in places other than areas where people play sports.

According to Mary Ann Butt, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, every stadium in the province must have a life-saving device and must be in all buildings used by the public.
