A man involved in a drowning incident was given CPR. The police are investigating the drowning of a 21-year old Montreal man whose lifeless body was pulled from the water at a beach and outdoor club in the Laurentians.
Drowning ordeal
The investigators with the Deux-Montagnes police department stayed at Beachclub in Pointe-Calumet where they planned to interview a dozen witnesses.
What led to the incident is still under investigation, but the man was pulled from the water and confirmed dead shortly after at the St-Eustache hospital. He was swimming in an area of the small artificial lake used by the club that is off-limits to swimmers.
According to Christopher Harding, a media relations officer with the Deux-Montagnes police department, the man swam out to the area past the boundaries with a group of friends who eventually returned to shore and kept an eye on him from a distance. The body of water has no strong waves or currents.
His friends may have seen him go under the water a few minutes and come back up according to Harding, but when they lost sight of him for good, they rushed to find staff members to alert a lifeguard. Twenty minutes later, he was pulled to shore.
The beach club staff and lifeguards were already performing CPR on the man when police arrived, followed by the ambulance.
The investigators interviewed at least 10 witnesses and were continuing to check into the incident including the security camera footage.
